Summer Tech Classes at NuGames Eureka

Hello students and parents! Welcome to the Summer Classes at NuGames in Eureka! We are excited to announce that our lineup of classes for Summer 2018 has evolved in an awesome way! This year, each session has a focuses on a unique, fun topic! There are six sessions of Computer Programming and Game Development, and three sessions of Pokemon and Dungeons & Dragons. Look below for all the cool topics we’ll this summer. All classes are held at NuGames in Eureka.

Session Dates

There are six weeks of Computer Programming and Game Development Camps.

Session 1: June 18 – June 22

Session 2: June 25 – June 29

Session 4: July 9 – 13

Session 5: July 16 – 20

Session 7: July 30 – Aug. 3

Session 8: Aug. 6 – 10

There are three weeks of Pokemon and Dungeons & Dragons camps

Computer Programming

Students will learn real programming skills with the Python programming language, used by Google and Youtube! All classes are appropriate for beginners to intermediate programmers. Only the final class, Sector Z, is for students with prior programming experience. Computer Programming classes take place Monday – Friday, from 9am to 12pm. Ages 10-17. Students should bring their own computer or call ahead to reserve one. Sessions are $200. Call the store to make a reservation.

The Oregon Trail
Session 1: June 18 – June 22
Students learn the fundamentals of programming by writing a text-based Oregon Trail game.

Pixels and Graphics
Session 2: June 25 – June 29
Render objects on screen with pixels and make them move for games and simple animations!

MIDI Sounds and Music
Session 4: July 9 – 13
Learn the MIDI programming language to make electronic sounds and music!

Introduction to Web Programming
Session 5: July 16 – 20
Learn how to build web pages with HTML and CSS, and make them interactive with Javascript.

Eliza the Chat Bot
Session 7: July 30 – Aug. 3
Students program a chat bot named Eliza that can converse with users.

Sector Z (Advanced)
Session 8: Aug. 6 – 10
Learn C++ and program a very simple side-scrolling shooting game like Raiden! This class only for students with prior programming experience.

Computer Game Development with Unity 3D

Unity 3D is a game engine that is very popular with small game studios. You can use it to create all kinds of games, from iPhone apps to big console shooters. Students would need to have some programming knowledge to take this class. Class cost $200. Some scholarship available.  (multi-session discounts). Mondays-Fridays, 1 pm – 4 pm, Ages 10-17. Students should bring their own computer or call ahead to reserve one. Sessions are $200. Call the store to make a reservation.

Cyber Escape
Session 1: June 18 – June 22
Build a side-scrolling running game where the player must escape a dystopian city.

Arcade Racer
Session 2: June 25-June 29
Build a racing game with boosts and explosions!

Builder Buds
Session 4: July 9 –13
Build a game where two friends can sit down and compete to construct the highest tower!

The Dungeon
Session 5: July 16 – 20
Build a top-down action game where players explore a dungeon and battle monsters to escape.

Monster Zone
Session 7: July 30 – Aug. 3
Build a 3D action game where the player runs and jumps to make it through the Monster Zone!

Gladiators
Session 8: Aug. 6 – 10
Build a 3D action game where many players can connect and battle over the internet!

Dungeons & Dragons Camp

Come learn the worlds’ greatest roleplaying game! Kids go on grand adventures as a heroic team of knights and wizards, them take turns as the Dungeon Master when they hone their storytelling and leadership skills. No experience necessary.  Class cost $110/session. Mondays-Fridays, 1 pm.- 4 pm. Ages 10-17

The Classic Dungeon
Session 3: July 2 – July 6
Campers learn to create the original style of Dungeons & Dragons adventure: an underground maze full of monsters, traps, and puzzles. Players must spend their resources wisely to survive!

The Adventure
Session 6: July 23-27
Campers will create an adventure that lets players travel between various and different locales to tell an epic story.

Making Homebrew Content
Session 9: Aug. 13 – 17
Campers will begin learning the skill of creating custom content for their D&D campaigns. New races, new classes – the only limit is their imagination.

Pokemon TCG World

In this Pokemon RPG based on the Pokemon Trading Card Game, campers choose a starting Pokemon and then embark on an adventure into the world of Pokemon! Campers will seek out rare wild Pokemon, battle rival trainers, and strive to become the Pokemon Master! Mondays-Fridays, 9 a.m.-Noon, Ages 8-16. Kids will learn how to play the card game Pokemon correctly, learn good game play habits and create various Pokemon crafts. Beginner decks and all craft materials included.  Class cost $110/session
